This interview with the producer Jerry Bruckheimer provides some insights into what he was thinking while working on Pearl Harbor. It is clear that he realizes the hallowed ground he is working with by making a film about such an emotional event. He describes his personal experience on the USS Arizona memorial and all the emotions he felt talking to survivors. He obviously knew how much this event affected all involved, and took that into consideration when producing the movie. He also makes it clear that they weren't able to include every aspect of the attacks and he hopes that, "It will… spark people’s interest to research what happened at Pearl Harbor, so they can again find out the truth and the nuances that we couldn’t put in a two-hour-plus movie"
I think this article is also very critical to my paper because it is another view from the "inside." It helped me understand the thought processes going on inside the people who created the movie. I think understanding what the producer did to prepare for the film and what he decided to include is so important in understanding why the film is the way it is.
